In Pictures: Barcelona Test 2
February 28, 2020
JOMA
Second and final week, well three days, of preparation for the 2020 Formula One season saw a bit of everything, hot and cold temperatures and even some rain early Thursday. The biggest surprise probably came from Racing Point with a strong resemblance to the Mercedes W10 in their RP20 contender.
SELECTED QUOTES
I am satisfied with how these winter tests have gone, from the completed program to the way the team has worked. We approached these two test sessions in a very different way from last year, using the first three days to get to know our car in all the possible configurations.
Mattia Binotto | Team Principal, Scuderia Ferrari
It feels good to wrap up testing at the top of the leaderboard and end two intense weeks for the team with a decent final day on track.
James Allison | Technical Director, Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport
We feel between the reliability and long runs we completed in the first week, and the performance tests in the second, we’re quite well prepared for the first race of the season in Australia.
Guillaume Rocquelin | Head of Race Engineering, Red Bull Racing
The second test was again very productive, albeit affected by some rain and wind yesterday, which reshaped the programs slightly and reset the track to some extent. That’s probably why some of the times weren’t as fast as they were before, but there was still plenty of running. From our point of view it was a smooth three days with no issues at all and there was also the opportunity to compare the standard C2 tire with a new construction at the front for the banked corner at Zandvoort, which will place a lot of demand on the front of the car. In terms of performance gaps, we saw about 0.45 seconds between C5 and C4, 0.3 seconds between C4 and C3, and approximately 0.45 seconds between C3 and C2.
Mario Isola | Head of F1 and Car Racing, Pirelli S.p.A.
